Expat Warning Message

What you received was not an official message from the Expat.com team. Unfortunately, yesterday we had a spammer who managed to send private messages to a number of members. Thankfully, several members reported it very quickly, which allowed us to take action and remove the account before it could cause any further issues.

As a general rule, we always recommend never clicking on links unless you are 100% sure they are legitimate and secure.

Thank you for bringing this up, and please do not hesitate to report anything that looks suspicious in the future. It really helps us keep the community safe.

Thank you Cheryl, the only reason I opened it was because it came as a private message and was not a link.

Yesterday I noticed that I had a private message on this site so opened it to find it was some sort of warning message. It was titled Expat Warning and said - Attention, for security reasons your Expat has been suspended. It then went on to say that illegal activities have been carried out from your IP address and our team have notified the police.

It was a new member trolling the site. The member's profile had stated that they were American, but judging by the syntax of their PM, I've got my doubts😏

The member's account has been terminated, and the expat.com IT team are investigating.

I know I have done nothing wrong on the site. I have not posted links, used foul language or disrespected other forum members so I was wondering if any other members have ever had a similar message and would like to ask the Admin Team if they have heard of anything like this before. Obviously I have not been suspended since I can post this topic and I have had no messages from the Administrators about any bad conduct from me.Thank You. - @Cherryann01

Just a reminder to members, whenever in doubt you are encouraged to make use of the forum's "Report" button. The Team members are very good at investigating reports and at following up with both the reporting member(s) and with the reported member. A report submitted to the Team is held in the strictest of confidence.

Off topic, but I wanted to let those unaware know that images can now be posted to a thread directly from your device. No need to link to an image-hosting site. Give it a try.
