Lotus Eater said . . . .I seem to remember Mr T took delivery of an electric vehicle from his ex buddy Elon before they fell out.

Elon is quite the visionary, he sent a Big Beautiful 2010 EV Roadster into space. It has exceeded its 36,000 warranty a 100,000 times now. It is expected to last millions of years.
Elons Big Beautiful Gift seems puny compared to Qatar who gave Trump a Big Beautiful Boeing 747. Quid Pro Quo in action. . . . by executive order Trump vowed to defend Big Beautiful Qatar against attack.
- @Enzyte Bob
Your Mr T returned the gift to Elon. Do you think he will return the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Maria Machado?
EV sales are down in the US due to the lack of subsidies and the cheap gas.
When gas dips below $2 a gallon there will be no market for EV's. When buying an EV most don't factor in the replacement cost of the batteries or replacement cost after a collision.
Gas cars are good for 300K miles or more, EV's will be crushed in the salvage yards with far fewer miles when the owners realize what the replacement battery cost is. - @Enzyte Bob
I see and hear your points Bob and as said old school thinking but OMO.
EV sales are down in the States for many reasons, the Musk/Trump love affair, higher tariffs on imports, the litany of espoused lies with regards to renewables etc.
Firstly we are not in the States and the thinking countries are moving forward and refuse to stagnate under lies. Why would I buy or use fossil fuels when I can harness the suns energy? The sun shining every day gives more energy than the whole worlds reserves that currently exist. Bob the sun shines everyday and doesn't need digging up or drilling nor constant pollution.
We as said have a BYD Sealion 6, It's PHEV (Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle).
That means it has an internal combustion engine (ICE) as a back up as like many I have the range anxiety issue.
A fairly well appointed luxury SUV that is comparable at a price level to traditional fuel guzzlers and the BYD offers far better appointments, no fuel unless an extended trip which for us is rare, locally around 120 to 140 Kms and plug it into the sun as needed.
As for longevity we swap out our car at 5 to 6 years but I recently heard that the BYD 8 year battery warranty has been extended to 10 years including their previously sold vehicles, not often a manufacturer ups the warranty on their product.
In near 8 months we have spent P 2K on fuel instead of the P 70/80K per year our previous ICE SUV cost us to run, servicing costs are half the price.
No Bob I'm not a BYD salesman just a thinking soul that knows how to do his homework. No different to investing in an off grid solar system, here we save P 25 to 30K per month because we run an A/C home and don't get a power bill every month.
The world is moving on from old school thinking.
OMO.
Cheers, Steve.

That explains why Spanish speaking US citizens refuse to buy them.
New topic Fred? Dare we venture down that road?

Just an off topic, slightly naughty, attempt at dark humour.
Two ICE agents walked into a bar ...........
Chilling Fred, puts a new spin on my JD on ice.

Lol. Good one.
Back on topic as a courtesy to the OP. We buy stuff on Shopee shipped from China to the Philippines and shipping is free,,,,,, I'm sure the cost is wrapped up in the buying price but for you in Palawan the upside for any bomb deliveries won't incur freight charges....... nor an apology.
Have you learnt any more on the booms you heard?
Cheers, Steve.

My ability to mount twigs at this QTH is very limited so all I have is 10 of wire in a yachts sail configuration held up with fishing poles. It tunes on 40 and 10 with an ATU.
I'm building a 1/4 vertical for 40 using a 12m rod for portable use. That should debut on Saturday if all goes well. QRP from an 818. I'll use a Yaesu FC 70M tuner. It's a military unit that will tune anything to anything.

Back in the states using a three element full size 40 meter yagi I worked over 100 countries in one weekend (CQWW).
I was able to work into Europe at 3 pm, two hours before sunset.

Over the years I probably made close to 100 purchases on Shopee. I never had free shipping.
I suppose Bob it depends what you are purchasing and where it's from.
Only relating our experiences.
Cheers, Steve.
Battery replacement must be considered in the actual cost of an EV. At todays prices:
Compact EV 6-10K USD
Mainstream SUV 9-16K USD
Luxury 14-23K USD
Ford F-150 17-30K
When battery replacement is required the EV has no value, off to the scrap yard.
Start a new thread Bob and I will discuss the benefits of alternative choices there and not hijack this thread further.
Chers, Steve.

As I recall working with lithium tech at IBM, the li cells had a lifetime of about 5 years...not bad for computers. EVs use thousands of those same small li ion cells packaged into their batteries. I think today, the rechargeable lithium technology may have reached 10 years provided the max number of charging cycles has not been exceeded. So if we assume 10 years for Steve's BYD, what would a knowledgeble buyer pay for a used BYD 8 years old? I know what will happen; Steve was smart enough to buy a hybrid and when the lifetime of the batteries are exceeded he will simply drive it in ICE mode for the remainder of its life. That is similar to laptops with defunct li batteries where they were still function running with the AC adapter powering it.

If Steve will indulge me. Batteries have always been and will be the joker in the pack for some time to come for EV’s. Cart before the horse?
Wifi technology that came into play in the previous century. YOU CANNOT BEAT A WIRED LAN CONNECTION AND NEVER WILL.
Solid battery technology was the ‘darling’ cure when it was announced a few years back but it just is not there yet. Years away.
No issues with EV’s per se but I will be sticking with my ‘gas’ Merc for the foreseeable future

Possibly.
I am as yet unsure of the wisdom of buying EV cars at this point. That will change if/when battery tech improves.
My EV bikes is fine. It uses old battery tech so is pretty safe, but I lose range for price.
Replacement batteries cost about 1/5 of the vehicle purchase price, so replacing remains economic for a good few years.
The whole point of the job is that China is an excellent partner for any country that has a market for cheap, efficient, and clean personal transport.
To the devil with political concerns, my bike makes sense in every possible way ... and countless thousands of locals agree with me.
No license , registration, or tax - Just an extremely simple form of travel.
I'm amazed other countries ban then, or discourage using them by regulation.
Traffic and parking issues simply disappear when people switch from cars to small EV bikes. That and pollution drops significantly, even electricity supply pollution as they use so little power to charge.
