Exploring Travel and Volunteering Perspectives in Indonesia (2026)

Ryan_chaniago

Hi everyone, and Happy New Year 2026! 🎉

I’m currently based in Indonesia and have been spending time reflecting on travel and volunteering experiences as we begin a new year.

In 2026, my personal focus is on learning more about how travel and community based initiatives can create positive experiences for both visitors and local communities, especially in areas that are still developing their tourism potential.

I’m interested in hearing personal perspectives from others here. Whether you have traveled to Indonesia before, volunteered in different countries, or are simply considering future destinations. What usually shapes your expectations when thinking about a meaningful travel or volunteering experience?

I believe these kinds of exchanges help us understand destinations more thoughtfully and encourage more responsible journeys.

Looking forward to learning from different experiences and viewpoints within this community.

Wishing everyone a year filled with growth and exciting journeys ahead. 🌍✨

Expats should be away there might well be immigration issues if you work without a permit,  that includes volunteering.

@Fred

You’re absolutely right. Immigration and work permit rules are important, and volunteering should always be done carefully and in line with regulations. It’s definitely an important point to keep in mind.
