The district of Thane in Maharashtra which is just next to Mumbai has a very large population of Warlis,Katkaris etc. which are aborigigne tribes.
They can be found in Yewoor in Thane city.(for that matter their padas exist even in Aarey colony Goregaon,Other parts of sanjay gandhi National Park)But the major concentration is in Dahanu,Vasai,Palghar,Jawhar,Talsari,Vikramgadh etc.which are
in Thane districts.
I can write on & on but you will get a lot of information on wikipaedia. So I am only trying to tell you how different & unique they are.In spite of abject poverty.
1)They do not utter falsehood or lie.
2)They do not steal even if they are hungry.
3)They do not beg.
4)They have a very rich culture.(to give just 1 example-Though nowadays it is the priests who are increasingly being used for solemnising marriages,It used to be the widows who soleminised the marriages)
They have a rich and unique culture and they live in harmony with nature. All this is fading away for variety of reason and the same needs to be documented and preserved.

Christine
