I'm a 71-year-old retired American seriously considering a long-term move to Siem Reap in early 2027. I'd love to connect with some established expats who could share their firsthand experience with housing, healthcare, everyday life, and getting settled.

I'm also very interested in meeting Khmer locals and learning the language and culture.

Hello. Been here this time 5 years. Live in Siem reap. Have a Khmer partner I love. Life is good here for me. Left America about 10 years ago. Traveled around Southeast Asia and back to America for visits until 2020 when I got stuck in Vietnam during the pandemic lockdown. Left in 2021 and lived in Mexico for a year. In 2022 came back to Cambodia. Met my partner. She puts up with me. Life is good here for us. Not perfect but I like what I have.

in all honesty Vietnam would have been where I wanted to end up. Not to be. That said I love the life I have here. Siem Reap offers a lot to me. Retirement life is good here. If you have questions many things already answered on the forums but you can also reply. There’s a lot of helpful people here. I don’t know all the answers. I do know what I did a decade ago to leave. That basic plan still works. In other posts here I’ve described what I did at some depth.
