First visit planned Siem Reap/ introducing myself

Hey folks, just booked my first visit to Siem Reap to check whether it would suit for me for retirement. Would like to meet people living there (expats, digital nomads, retirees) to get expertise about pros and cons. I'm German, 63, female, btw. Always interested in meeting new people, so I would appreciate you to contact me. When do you also plan a visit, can recommend expat groups, FB or else.

Hello PatWe,

Welcome to Expat.com πŸ˜€

When are you planning to travel, and how long will you be staying on your first visit? Are you mainly looking to explore the city, or do you already have a few neighborhoods in mind?

Hopefully, members living in Siem Reap will be able to share their experiences and recommendations with you.

Wishing you all the best with your planning!

Cheers,

Cheryl

Welcome to Siem reap. Been here almost 5 years. Living with Khmer partner. Love the city. Take some time to go walk around wat Damnak and wat Bo districts. Love both of them. Also taphul street very nice. We live outside of town a few km.

really enjoy the coffee shops and the occasional beer at one of the viva restaurants or beatnik bar.

walking is nice in the city. Must be more aware since sidewalks are meant for a variety of vehicles.

the city has been very good to me. Met my wonderful Khmer partner here. Have a nice life on my fixed income. Right now it’s rainy season here or as they are calling it lately green season. It will either rain often or rarely. Just watch the Khmer people. When you see them suiting up with rain gear likely it will start.

hope you enjoy the stay.
