Can we live comfortably in Cambodia?

specops70

HEy there, I'm retired army, my wife and I have a combined retirement income of about 50 thousand annually. WE also are covered by TRICARE for LIfe medical insurance which pays outside USA. Can we live comfortably in Cambodia? I prefer a smallish town near the coast. Do NOT want to live in a crowded city.

I think you can. I live on retirement at about 30k a year very comfortably. My girl friend and I rent a small apartment in Siem reap which is $180 a month. We have no real other debt. She cooks most meals for me. We eat out rarely. She also does all the shopping.

I would say we have a nice lifestyle. Before meeting her I lived alone for some years throughout Southeast Asia. Never had problems with what I made.

You mention living by the coast. I think you would have a few options. Kep, Kampot and Sihanoukville come to mind. I’ve not been to Sihanoukville since before the pandemic but we have spent a few weekends and holidays in Kampot and kep. I prefer Siem reap. It just feels like home since I came back. It helps to have this person in my life I love and that makes me happy here.

i think you two should visit first. Pick a few places to visit and see if you like. That’s much better than moving sight unseen.

Take care.
