Public transportation in Rabat

Hi Armand.

I'm from rabat so I guess I could help for this one.

Rabat is a pretty big city so you should expect transportation problems if you are going to live here.

about the network of means of transportation , I would not say it's well developed , it's not well organized and it's  still pretty hard to find transportation on  peak hours so most of the time you will just take a crowded bus, and there is way too many means of transportation which create traffic congestions.

the modes of transport available are the following:

blue taxi (called "petit taxi"): it's the best mode available it takes you wherever you want and it's fast and most of the time will not cost you more than 20DH.

white taxi (called "grand taxi"): I would not recommend it even if its cheaper than the blue taxi (4DH) , its crowded , 7 people in one car , anyhow you can take one alone for 25DH if you are going too far.

buses: they will take you almost everywhere for 3.5DH but they are too crowded most of the time.

tram: newest mode of transport in rabat (started on June 2011), the ticket costs 7DH for one HOUR(you can use it for the return trip).

I personally use blue taxis because they are fast,cheap and practical.

about safety , I would not recommend white taxis. they drive too fast and If something happen with that much people in a car someone could get hurt.for the rest its okay.
