How many expats are in marrakech or morocco during this coronavirus pandemic?

They just announced official lockdown and I am feeling uneasy wondering if I should of returned home during this time?

Please tell me I'm not alone in this, would love to have other expats to talk to!

Hello - people are still here (in Marrakech) - the lock-down has started, but it's still possible to go out to get food / medicines and ALSO to WORK! All you'd need to do is to get the official document (you can get this on-line), print, fill it in, and get your local 'Mkadam' to stamp it for you. I've done this today - simple.

As for going back 'home' - well, it will all depend where your home is - the borders are sealed (not sure flights are operating).

Do you need this paper to just go to your local shops? Also where can you find your local mkadam?

Yes - you do need the paper - even to go to the local shops - as the paper clearly states - in one of the Tick-boxes "Shopping within the local area". As for the Mkedem - normally people would have his local number (he is the one who should have issued you with the residence certificate). Worst comes to worst, you can simply print the document and go to your local store (with the document) and ask him to contact the Mkedem.

What is the current situation and policy on the virus. Surely hotels and businesses are suffering financially and Morocco relies on tourism

You cant go to your home at this time because flying is stoped from the started of lockdown and even if you contact your consult for that they will ask you to stay untill this finish , even if you are group of foreigns from same country it will need to get premision from both countries and your country cant send a plsne for 10 people or that will be so expensive if they accept that .
Stay in your home safe and if you need to go out took with you this paper that told you the member " ahouam " and go to ask people for ' mkadam ' you can ask like grocery man or any policeman you find in street near you he will show you where find him , then when you get your paper you can go brings your food and meds and in ramadan its not allowed to anyone to go out from 7 evening to 6 morning just the police and who have premision of work .

I have read that Morocco will be open to uk holiday makers late July. Does anyone have evidence of this or thoughts on this.

I very much doubt this. Even if they open the borders it will be to countries clear of the virus. I wouldn't think it will be open to the UK until next year. They have said the borders will stay shut and they will focus on domestic tourism. Subject to change.

Borders are still closed until at least 10 September, at which time another decision will be made.
Yes, everyone wants the tourists to come, but it simply isn’t feasible at the moment. My husband is one of many tour guides who have been living with nothing lately. Zero income. It it’s much better that we don’t all die of COVID-19
