Corruption in Morocco?

Jhuang68

Hi all,

Perhaps this is a sensitive subject, but I'd love to get some insight on how wide spread is corruption in Morocco.  Particularly I'm referring to bribery of court officials and police officers, how common is it, and how one could resolve an issue if you are the victim of the effects of bribery?

I ask because my boyfriend in Marrakech seems to be a victim of this.  He has been in a legal battle for the last year.  There has already been a resolution (he paid a fine) but the king's agent and police will not release him.  He suspects that the person he has been in a legal battle with has bribed the king's agent or the police into keeping him at the station.  His lawyer hasn't been able to get him out either.

It's been frustrating for us both.  Him not being able to find a legal solution.  Me not being able to help in anyway.  So I'm trying all avenues here - even if it's just to get some insight into the legal system in Morocco.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

X Julie

Are you there in marrakech with your boyfriend?

It's obvious he had committed a crime or he wouldn't be in jail even after paying a fine? What crime did he commit? It shows you're from USA. Are you and your husband US citizens and used US passport to get into Morocco? If so, common sense would be to seek help from US consulate in Casablanca.

Update: Just realized you said boyfriend. If he's Moroccan, God help you.
