How to find out whether his story is true?

sunflowers1980

I'm in the process of divorcing my Moroccan husband. I'm in the UK and he's from Morocco (although living in Libya at the moment). I need him to sign the divorce papers. I sent them to him on WhatsApp and he responded to say he wants to help but was struggling to understand some of the questions. I helped him as much as I could and said he can email me if needs to ask any more questions about them.

He then went silent for 2 weeks (I guessed that meant he understands the questions and has completed the paperwork without needing to ask me more about it).

Then, after 2 weeks of silence, he sent me a long message (translated into very perfect English - his English wasn't that great), explaining that his new wife (he re-married under Moroccan law a few years ago) has just been killed in a tragic car accident, and that he's left alone in Libya with their young daughter, desperately trying to get back to Morocco because Libya is so unstable etc.

I've no idea why he wrote such a lengthy message to me about all his difficulties when all I need was for him to sign the divorce papers.

I suspect parts of his story might be untrue, perhaps using it as a distraction from the divorce proceedings that I'm pursuing in the UK.

Is there any way that I can verify whether his story is true? I don't know the name of his wife, but I can provide his details to anybody who might be able to check?

Hello sunflowers1980,

What a difficult and emotional situation… I am sorry you are having to deal with this on top of your divorce.

Were you able to look into this any further or gather any additional info since posting?

Verifying such personal stories can be very tricky, especially across different countries, and with limited details.

I hope you can get some clarity soon so the process can move forward.

All the best,

Cheryl
