Quality?

Good Afternoon,

I am moving to Mauritius along with my husband and five yr old son this August.  I am wondering if someone can tell me about:

1. The quality of health care on the island?  We currently live in St Thomas, Virgin Islands and it's not great here, so I am trying to get a feel for what it will be like after we move.

2. Do you trust the doctors/surgeons?

3. What are the facilities like?

4. Is it easy enough to get your medications, etc?

I hope you guys have some insight/opinions to share with me!

Thanks so much and have a great day!

Hello

Hope your preparations to come to Mauritius are going well. Here are some answers which I hope will help you :

1. The quality of health care on the island?
In Mauritius you have 2 type of health care : public and private. Public hospital are not great but you will find lot of people going to them because of low earnings. On the other side you will find the private clinic which usually and in general offer good service but with the price coming with it. You will find that it is wise to have medical insurance for your whole family when living in Mauritius.

2. Do you trust the doctors/surgeons?
Many doctors and surgeons obtains their diploma from France or  UK institutions. You can trust them in general.

3. What are the facilities like?
You will find that there is a big difference between public hospital and private clinic. Private clinic are cleaner and offers more comfort comparing to public hospital but like I said at a very high price.

4. Is it easy enough to get your medications, etc?
Yes. on this side no problem. You will find pharmacies all around the island and they usually have everything for all kind of illness. They can also order specific medication for you if you wish.

Hereunder you will find the internet link to 2 of the most known private clinic of Mauritius:
