Spouse Permanent Resident Application

Hello,

I am a Mauritian by birth - still have my Mauritian passport and we have Canadian citizenships. We are planning to buy a property in Mauritius to be close to family and retire eventually.

What is the quickest way I can apply for a permanent resident for my husband? Spouse Visa or Investment Visa?

We have resided in Canada 5 years, USA for 10 years and now have moved back to Canada and it has been two years now since we have been in Canada.

For the application - I am confused about the documents to produce for his background check. Will the RCMP certificate from Canada be enough with Hague Apostilled. I cannot rely on anyone in Mauritius since my mom is very old and my dad has passed away to gather the information.

I have called the Washington DC embassy but not very helpful. I am planning to call PIO office tomorrow, but would love to hear from others in similar situations.

Much appreciated!

Hi,

I can't speak to the Investor Visa route but from personal experience, a Spousal Visa will take about 6 to 9 months to be approved. Your spouse will need an Apostilled (or Legalised) Police Clearance certificate from any country he has spent 6 months or more in. In your case, I'm assuming that would be both Canada and the US.

Hope that helps.
