British doctor & German teacher looking for work in Mauritius

Dear Expat Community

My husband and I are looking to move to Mauritius with our two young daughters. We are trying to find out more information regarding work opportunities and setting up a life for our family. I am a secondary school teacher and my husband is a doctor (anaesthetist/ pain specialist). If anyone has been in a similar situation, works in these fields or has any general advice we would really appreciate your help.

Thank you and kind regards,

Tina and Peri

Hello and welcome on board !

For a good start, I would recommend that you read the articles of the Living in Mauritius Guide for Expats. It contains useful information about work and visas. You will find some recruitment websites/agencies listed in the work section.

You may also create your CV in the Jobs in Mauritius section to increase your visibility on the net. LinkedIn works quite well in Mauritius.

You may also google search for clinics, hospitals and schools in Mauritius to have a look at their website's careers sections. Feel free to send your spontaneous candidacy to companies in your field.

All the best

Dear Bhavna

Thanks a lot for your quick response and helpful advice- much appreciated!

You're welcome !

Oh and a little tip. In the Guide and Mauritius business directory, you'll find names, adresses and websites of clinics, private hospitals. Find some schools in this article : The education system in Mauritius

Welcome to the Forum.

Working as a doctor in Mauritius after working in the UK is not easy, but not too bad in your husband's speciality. You all may need to visit for a few weeks initially after arranging meetings with the private hospital administrators, to meet the directors etc. If he is offered a job, the Mauritius Medical council will need to see all his certificates in original and he will need to submit an application for registration. And wait. His potential employer will need to apply for a work permit. And wait. Things move slowly in Mauritius.

If your husband wishes to email me directly on this forum, I will be happy to chat to him.

I am afraid I do not know about teachers.

Thank you so much for your response. I will tell my husband to text you directly in the next few days. Great! Kind regards!
