Thanks for a good brief summary of the situation so far.
I would like to add that in the meantime also Rodrigues has become affected. Apart from 3 postponed openings (01.10./01.11./15.11.) we are still without commercial flights.
Due to the sanitary situation in Mauritius there has been a lot of resistance in the population to agree to a-7 day-quarantine-only when opening. A lot of people think it should be 14 days at least in order to allow more safety and protection.
There were even several demonstrations, something rather rare in Rodrigues.
Since 08 October, with the arrival of the first repatriation flight (quantity depends on local and regional government) under new 7days quarantine condition (instead of 14days in Mauritius plus 7 before even 14 days in Rodrigues),
we have had also our first Covid-19 cases, in total 14 so far, apart from a young girl all doubled vaccinated
.
And as far as we were informed fortunately
not yet been
under artificial ventilation or need of oxygene.
But
people continue to be scared, looking to Mauritius make them prey for the victims over there and for that our small island will be spared.
If borders will open as fr
om 01.12. - this remains a big question.
In Rodrigues we are still not double vaccinated at 60 % , fortunately the booster vaccination started yesterday with everyone concerned very grateful for that extra protection.
Vaccination of children
above 12 with PfizerBioNtec has not yet started.
Apart from Mauritius and Rodrigues I follow also the general development of the pandemic , currently and in particular Austria and Germany. What we can see over there looks a bit similar to what we see right now in Mauritius. The vaccination progress is with 67% (double vacc.) more or less comparable.
So, to all Mauritians - please
respect all sanitary measures, reduce contacts and stay safe!!!
