The Dreaded Toilet Paper Question.....

Hi folks,

Tried searching the forum but didn't find any useful posts.

A lot of properties don't seem to have mains sewage connections and therefore mayhap a septictank system instead.

Coming from the UK were not that keen on the "poo paper in the bin" option so realistically what are the options available ?

Thanks

Jim

TBH many people ignore this matter and then get hit with a massive charge when its proved to have been blocked by "matter" from their feed to the septic tanks - they really should heed the warnings as it can lead to blocked pipes - its more likely to be an issue and an important point to ask & look out for when buying or renting a property especially on larger complexes who in the main are usually maintained by a property management company.... also be aware that many complexes were not completed properly and this item is one of the reasons they werent completed as a fully functioning biological contactor unit is extremely expensive (€250-300k) ... one complex I know of locally is in this position and as a result 50% of the units are empty lying unsold and without deeds and absolutely no chance of getting title deeds until its completion is signed off... this property is now 12 years old.... many unsold many have abandoned their properties struck by the swiss franc mortgage problem some have handed their keys back and walked away some have stayed and are in negotiations with lenders some are being sold at massively reduced prices... and as a rsulty there is no chance of anyone stumping up the cash to force a completion sign-off and opening the  door to title deeds.

Weve just acquired a property on a complex and this is made quite clear to all residents... fees for clearance are BIG...

We have always used the bins and dont find it an issue at all having been subjected to blocked pipes, as a result of a previous occupier's actions not a pleasant experience to unblock them - its amazing what people shove down their toilet

Some areas are on a (non tank) sewage system and as such are not normally subject to  this issue but they do get charged for the connection to the sewage system and its a separate charge on your municipality water bill

so buyer beware when searching and finding a property

Many thanks Toon

We are looking to have a detached property so anything different about that situation?

Jim

I would check on any prospective property with the municipality if they are on a sewage system as these days many properties are detached and yet  could still be in a complex plan and this could be connected to a tank

Thanks Toon

Jim

We buy septic friendly toilet paper Scottonelle and not had a problem in 13 years.  We use Parazone bleach which is also septic tank friendly.

Didn't know there was such a thing but hey we learn something new every day

Easy - Don't use toilet paper.

That sounds bad until you work out the Muslim way that spread all over South East Asia because it's way better, way cleaner, and way kinder on your hemorrhoids.

Just to stay on the subject, bullshit !!!
There's nothing hygienic about touching shit with your hands and that's not the topic anyway.
I saw that due to your trolling, some discussions have been closed, if this is how you enjoy spending your days, you are really to be pitied.

Thanks for these posts - we are just about to buy property and I hadn't considered this point.

I will definitely invest in recycled bamboo paper and eco friendly products.

We are going to do Airbnb when not there. Does anyone have any suggestions for a toilet paper disposal bin? Ideally one which allows for some eco friendly way of breaking the paper down as it is used by people.

Honestly it is not a problem we've been using bins here  for 7 years and  it's no biggy … just be aware of fines or charges or increased communal fees in the case of complexes having to deal with blockages caused by toilet paper Nappies baby wipes facial wipes .. and remember many properties in complexes are let out part year as Airbnb and tourists won't  care  if the blockages are found after they've left…

Yes thanks for reassurance and heads up
