Assuming I fulfill all the requirements, like passing the language test and 5 year residency,, and I had a lawyer do it/help me, how long does it take to become a Portuguese citizen?

How much time after that could my wife become a citizen by marriage?

Thank you!

Hi Haochi,

It's not possible to give you a deadline for the process to be completed. Due to pandemic, these processes were in standby for several months.

But from what I've read, the naturalisation processes for foreigners who have been residing legally for at least five years in Portugal, can take between 4 to 18 months to be concluded. The deadline for minors is usually shorter, 2 to 3 months.

You can follow the progress of your process here:

https://nacionalidade.justica.gov.pt/

Here you should enter the code that was sent to you or to your lawyer by the Instituto dos Registros e do Notariado (IRN).
