A place to call home in Southern Italy

Hello,
My wife and I are looking to purchase a cheap property in Southern Italy for future retirement. I was born in Italy to Canadian parents... We have already visited Guardia Sanfromndi but can anyone recommend another town/city that has something of an expat community and cheap properties for sale?
Thank you, Mike

Hi Mike and Michelle,

Welcome to Expat.com :)

I would advise you to have a look at the articles on accommodation in Italy by clicking here : https://www.expat.com/en/guide/europe/i … ation.html
You may find some useful information about cities cheap properties are available to expats.

Wish you good luck,

Priscilla

Thanks Priscilla.

I stayed in Martirano in Calabria for a week last year. Was very impressed. I met several expats from UK and Sweden who have been living there for 10+ years and absolutely love the town and the people.

Thank you so much for the recommendation. Mike

Thank you so much. Knew about the 1 Euro properties but did not know there was one web-site to go to. Thanks again, Mike

I am going to add this in here. They stepped up their game and offer money for entrepreneurs. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/ … are_btn_tw
My question is which one of these small towns is the gem that will shine and a good investment.

That's a great question and one we are trying to answer. Thanks for the article!

Very true!

Surely there are certain rules to follow, and most of the times you need to wait for the publication of a tender notice.

We know about some Municipalities that, very soon, will publish a tender note (Bando di Gara).

Very often the project involves small towns, and the main intention of the Majors is to repopulate the areas, and transfer the ownership of houses (which need consistent renovation works) to smart investors.

I wrote an article about it, but not sure if I can add it in this post.
