Social Media Banned in Ecuador Schools

cccmedia

The Ministry of Education has banned the use of social media in Ecuador's public schools.

Abuses involving FaceBook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter and other social media prompted the decision, according to the ministry.

Students and teachers are being advised to use email instead of social media if online communication is necessary in the schools.

That's interesting to know.

My girlfriend teaches at a public high school in Guayaquil.

She has complained occasionally how social media has been used as a weapon to shame others. In her school, teachers have distributed images to publicly shame their colleagues for allowing classrooms to get dirty. Parents have used it to air grievances that aren't getting resolved.

In announcing the ban, the Ministry of Education detailed "dozens of cases" of abuse through social media this year (2018) alone.
