Hello,

Learning a new language is a part of the expat process. Let's find out how crucial it is to know the language in Kuwait.

What is the official language in Kuwait, and what are the other popular spoken languages?

Is it possible to live in Kuwait and get by without speaking the language?

How do you manage to communicate with the locals if you don't speak the native/official language fluently?

What are some popular and useful phrases that expats absolutely need to know?

Can you share some tips about how to survive in Kuwait on a daily basis without speaking the language?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Hello dear.

Arabic language is mostly used in kuwait and entire reign. I am working here since 1981 but can speak very little Arabic. Besides, all Arabs can guess what we are trying to say in our broken Arabic. Just as we try their Arabic,  they do not hesitate to speak our languages n English as well.  All private businesess or offices use English and Arabic  but government offices use only Arabic. Most of expats speak English. In short, no one should worry much for not knowing local language.

“ Goodluck to everyone”

Best regards.

Arabic with Kuwait dialect is the local language. Other Arabic dialect specially Lebanese and Egyptian Arabic dialect are also popular. English is most common among all the Expats and professions. Local Kuwaiti people knows English very well. It is easy to communicate in shops or malls if you know English. Even the office boys would know bit of English.

The best part I could see was the communication within the workers. They all know their local languages still somehow successfully communicate with their fellow workers with a mix of sign language, little english and little local language.

I also noticed that few do not want to speak English purposely. In my opinion language is just a medium of communication. It should not be associated with any culture or religion. One should not love or hate any language.
