Hello,

We invite you to share some information regarding leisure activities that are free or low-cost in the Netherlands. This information will give future expats (or even current expats) an idea regarding some of leisure activities that they might not be aware of.

Is there a way to find out about free or low-cost fun activities in the Netherlands, such as a specific app, or a newsletter, or magazine, tourism board, etc.? How do you find out where events are organised?

What are the most common free leisure activities in the Netherlands?
Which free activities do you recommend for children, for teenagers, for adults, and for seniors?

Are there certain days where access to paid activities are offered at a lower price or even for free, such as museum entry, or exhibitions, or a theme park, etc.?

How do you maximise your leisure activities in the most cost-effective manner?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

my inputs based on my experience are as follows:

1.Is there a way to find out about free or low-cost fun activities in the Netherlands, such as a specific app, or a newsletter, or magazine, tourism board, etc.? normally in each major cities, i.e: Amsterdam, Rotterdam have tourist info center, though just realize I have not seen one in Den Haag. Alternative sources: Main library, Information center at train stations, Cities websites.

2.How do you find out where events are organised?
pretty much the same as in no.1, especially the cities websites, ie. https://www.rotterdam.nl/,https://www.iamsterdam.com/,

3.What are the most common free leisure activities in the Netherlands?
I would say, walking around the city centers where normally the shops are located and other attractions, walking in parks such as: Vondelpark in Amsterdam area, Het park in Rotterdam.

4. Which free activities do you recommend for children, for teenagers, for adults, and for seniors?  same as no.3

5.Are there certain days where access to paid activities are offered at a lower price or even for free, such as museum entry, or exhibitions, or a theme park, etc.? there are on certain places and days, the information should be available on the cities websites and websites of the attractions.

6.How do you maximize your leisure activities in the most cost-effective manner? set an agenda and route perday, adjusting to the available offers.

Mrs C manages to do both at the same time.  Koopavond's and Zondag's are paradise for her. :)
