Hello All,

I am from India.

Its been a while I am reading the blogs, discussions about life in Austria/Vienna.. People, culture, stats etc etc.. Most people say knowing German language makes things easier.. I am planning to come with Highly Qualified Worker(job seeker) visa, I ll have 6months to search a job and what I've been reading is, knowing German will help get a job easily.. I am looking for some help in this regard :)

Plz share your suggestions/experiences in finding a job in 6months.. How likely or unlikely it might be..

Welcome to the Forum :)

It might help if you actually tell us what kind of job you are looking for?

Thank you :)

Right now I am working as a Product Manager in India and I am looking for a similar profile in Austria as well.. I have around 10 years exp..

Hi, I am English and still based in the UK. I am interested in relocating to Vienna. Any tips on employment and relocation would be appreciated

Welcome Alan :)

In my eyes Austria is far better than the UK, maybe that's why I've lived here for 9 years ;) what kind of work would you be looking for? German is needed for most things but in some cases you can get away with none or just basic. How is your German?

Hi,
Greetings of the day. Hope you are doing fine.
I have a Job offer from a company in Graz, Austria. My queries are -

1. Do I need an actual rent agreement as accomodation proof to apply for a red white red card?
2. OR Can I manage to get a temporary accomodation booking online for the purpose of application only?

I wish to invest in renting only after confirmation of receiving work permit. At the moment the only option I have is to spend on travel to Graz and invest on renting a place before submission of application.

Regards,
Kunalz

Hi and Welcome :)

All the information you need can be found HERE.

Hi Everyone!

I am Vinay, a Linux Sysadmin from India looking to relocate to Linz, Austria for a possible job and would greatly appreciate any advice and support from each one of you.

Recently, I've been interacting with a company for the role of a Operations Engineer and been told they can offer compensation in the form of a 14 month salary between €45.000 and €56.000 gross p.a via an initial email.

Now this is before all deductions (They've shared a salary calculator here) but I believe their final offer would be dependent on my skill-set & successful interviews.

I feel I shouldn't confine myself to their range and negotiate for a higher number but I assume such an email from me would end any chances of me landing an interview, leave alone the job.

Can someone please let me know if the above range is sufficient in Linz for a single person? If not, how do I negotiate?

Kind Regards,
Vinay Hegde

Hi!

I am a photographer that works between NYC and Montana who specializes in fashion, beauty and model development and would be looking to possibly transition that into lifestyle photography for tourists that visit the city. I also photograph food/drinks, interiors and products. I also write for SLR Lounge and would be able to maintain that part time work from anywhere around he globe.

That being said, in a past life I was a barista and ended up managing a local coffee shop. After starting my life completely over, this sounds pretty ideal again. I found the best coffeeshop last week called coffeehouse Salzburg and would work there in a heartbeat.

I am just learning German and have a little French and Spanish. Is this a total lost cause to move to the city of my dreams?

I have visited 4 times now (even spent my honeymoon there when I was married once upon a time) and am never ready to leave. It is truly where I feel alive, feel at home and am the happiest.

I am a freelance writer and would be able to tutor English and would even look at being a tour guide, Baker, etc. I think the only thing my body might not be able to handle is working in a pub with smoke because of my asthma. .

I made some friends the last time I was there a few weeks ago and would love to meet new people as well. I appreciate all of your help. It doesn't need to be forever... but I would like to live more than three months if I could.

Cheers!

Brittany

Servus, Julien!

I'm Ana from Zagreb, Croatia, currently living in Toronto, Canada where I'm working on my Master Thesis in Microelectronics, Electrical engineering.

After graduation in October I'm definitely moving to Vienna cause I've lived there last year and the city got under my skin.

I want to use this forum to find out what are my job opportunities in Vienna and maybe find someone who'd be kind enough to help me find a job.

Best regards to you all :)

Ana

Hi I'm Sharon. 48 years young and Native English teacher. Lived here ten years. Married with two children. Boy 16 and girl 11. Many of our English friends have come and gone. Meeting friends was easier when the children were younger. We have realised over this summer that I/ we have a very poor social life. We are looking to meet anybody who is new or in similar circumstances.

Welcome to the Forum Sharon :)

There are still lots of Brits living in Austria (10000)  and in Vienna (3000). I've been here nearly 10 years and absolutely love it here.

Hi All,

I am from India, living in Vienna since 2016. I am learning German. Completed A2 OIF exam. I love Vienna. But when comes to job, I am really struggling here for a job since 10 months!!!!!. I have 7+ years of experience in Banking and Finance | Customer Support | Administration | Office Support. I tried applying on all job sites in Vienna. Registered in AMS. No positive reply. Sometimes its really frustrating. I am looking for friends who can really help me in this. Hoping for positive interactions! I am also worried that my career gap is getting longer.

Hi, my name's Phil. Been living in Graz for the last three years, but due to the birth of my son, never really found the time to develop my social life. Now I'm really keen to meet other expats in the city.

Phil

Hi and Welcome Phil

You are roughly about 4 hours away from (bit far to travel for a beer) I visited the city early this year and totally loved it. Could quite happily live there compared Vienna. But I am happy in the countryside though.

Hello! I'm relocating to Vienna in 2 months time! I'm truly excited as I've been told and have read so so much great things about Vienna - people, food, culture, infrastructure, etc.
I'm going to be based in VIC and therefore thinking of staying as near possible to VIC so that I can just go to work by foot. Any highly recommended place to stay or any areas which I must must avoid - it'll be just me myself for now so a small suite would do.

Thanks in advance!

Best,
Jeannie

One of the best and cheapest public transport system I've seen is in Austria, and Vienna is second to none.

Hi All,

It's great to find a set of folks discussing Austria.
I wanted to know whether my Education falls under the MINT category to apply for a Jobseeker Visa.
I have completed my Bachelors in Electronic Science(3 years)  followed by a Masters in Computer Application(3 years).
According to the Very Highly Qualified Workers - MINT yields me 30 points but my question is does a  Master degree in Computer Applications falls under MINT to help me get the 30 points.

Other areas were I get points are my experience - 20 points,  IELTS - 10 points. Age - 20 Points Which sums up to 70 points and meets the very highly qualified worker program.

Can anybody in this group help me in this regard
Appreciate your time.

Hallo Julien, Hello everybody!

My name is Renzo and I'm a graphic designer from Argentina (also EU citizen).
After living my last year in Canada (Vancouver), I decided to move to Austria.

My idea was to learn German and experience a different culture, and in the process, the famous lifestyle and beauty of Austria convinced me to choose Vienna instead of Berlin.

I arrived a couple of months ago, and I have to admit that the challenge of learning German has been harder than I thought, but still a great one! Every day, with every new word/verb I add to my vocabulary, things get more fun, step by step... It's a beautiful place with great people and I'm anxious to be able to relate to them without a second language...

Anyways! Nice to meet you all! Schonen tag noch!

After living my last year in Canada (Vancouver), I decided to move to Austria.

Nice life indeed, seems you have global experience as well.
I am curious, did you arrive Vianna by a job seeking visa or got a job offer here.

Hey!

No, I was in Canada with a Working Visa and when it expired and had to move. And decided to give a try in Austria. I was always curious about this country and meet really nice travelers from here.

I arrived here and I am trying to settle down, learn the language, meet people. As far as work, I didn't have a job offer here so I'm still in the search, but there is a few potential freelance projects and that my be my way to start building some connections here..

Thanks for the interest! What about you? What your story?

Hi all,

Long story short, I was born and raised in Belgium and, six years ago, I moved to Canada. As much as I enjoyed the experience, I miss our good old Europe and would like to move back. Hopefully within the next few months. Austria has always been my favourite destination for a vacation and, recently, I realised that it is where I would love to live and work. So, here I am, browsing for information!

I am really glad I found this forum and I can hardly wait to read all about your Austrian experiences.
