Reg : Salary 6500RM, Safety in Malaysia

Hi,

I got a job in Malaysia company (Near petaling jaya) . They offered me 6500 RM/Month. Whether it is sufficient with a family( having 3 months baby)
a) What are the taxes applicable. What will be the net salary after deduction of taxes.

b) Whether it is safe in malaysia or not.

c) What will be the house rents near petaling jaya or kota damansara.(Near to office)
.

Malaysia is generally safe but there are some problems.
Mostly scam artists, but there are muggers out at night, so avoid dark alleys.

The tax rates are as follows. Apply them to your annual salary then divide by 12 to find monthly deduction

0-5,000                0%
5,000-10,000      1% = RM50
10,001-20,000    1%  +RM100
20,001-35,000    5%  +RM750
35,001-50,000   10%  +RM1,500
50,001-70,000   16% +RM3,200
70,001-100,000   21% +RM6,300
100,001-250,000  24% +RM36,000
250,001-400,000  24.5% +RM36,750
Exceeding 400 000  25%  (+?)

Rental will depend on age, size and location. Allow about RM1500.

On top of that you will need RM1000-1200 for food and RM350 for utilities and phones and RM200 for transportation.

Big place pj. Kota damansara is traffic hell home made worse by mrt works.

6.5k with a family is survival salary. Yes you can but no savings. One bad medical upset and you are stuffed worse than a Thanksgiving Turkey. If you have a good job already I would reconsider. 6.5k ok for a 23 year old single with 2 years experience. But with a kid....

Thank you..

You seem to be from India, therefore initially you will be non resident for tax purposes and therefore tax will be deducted at the non resident rates, it will be reclaimable if you meet the residency rules later.
Rents around Kota Damansara will depend on what you are looking for. please check online for either apartment or house (see IProperty website to get ideas)
for a family with small baby (buying milk, pampers etc). RM6500 is not much to be honest as the KD area and the shops around the Curve are not cheap. You would probably need at least RM10k to live comfortably. Will the company be giving any other benefits such as health insurance, paying EPF (you are a foreigner but can opt to pay 11% out of your salary which will be refunded when you leave the country, employers pay 12%), home leave etc?
