Will my plastic work around the country? Should cash be carried?

If you have a Visa or MasterCard it will work in some places. There are many shops, restaurants, etc where that is not an available option so cash must be carried also. Most places will accept USD but don't bring bills larger than $50 USD , due to a set exchange rate of $1 USD = $2 BZD, there may be difficulty in using those in smaller shops/restaurants.

Sorry about my delayed response, but Thank You! Maybe our paths will cross in the next couple of months. We are looking for a place to rent for about 26 days. Just comfortable. Something we could use as home base. Again Thank You.

The other issue with credit cards is we know of at least 1 restaurant here in Corozal that will take your credit card for payment but they require any tip for the wait staff to be in cash. Another reason to carry cash.
