hi there
well my boyfriend and myself are moving to cairo actually to mohandseen in egypt.
whats it like living there and is there anything we should know before we go.
so excited but very nervous ..... whole new world....
any advice????

Well i'm an Egyptian and i've been living in Cairo my whole life.I live in El Haram district which is not that far from Mohandssin.I think Mohandssin is a very nice place to stay.Although it is crowded throught the whole week and you can be fed up with the noise sometime but, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. You can find practically every brand of clothes in Mohandssin stores. There are so many different restaurants there too. Many schools for learning Arabic and companies working in different fields of business are based in Mohandssin.

I live in Mohandessen :)

Ask any questions you want about the place :D

Advice#1:The parking space is really hard to find if there's no allocated parking in your building :)

transportation, is it easy to use. as in cape town i have only used the train once.
driving??? we willbeable to use the company car so wondering what the traffic is like
is being female very difficult????
please give me some pros and i suppose some cons too.
as much info as you could posibly give me

gendy

My advice is to get a flat in Zamalek or Mohandesien. Transportation here is very cheap (compared to Europe is nothing)
u will use Taxis that's the main transportation (buses are overcrowded same as metro)

being a female is not difficult :D , it depends which area u r living that's why i recommend that u look for a place in Zamalek or Mohandesien, Zamalek would be better as many foreigners live there and it's easier to walk in Zamalek (less crowded than Mohandesien)  and the distance between zamalek and mohendesien is just 10 min driving.

hope this helps!

thank you for all your help:)
i am really looking forward to it
living expenses. is it expensive for day to day living. we will get a free meal from our job but wanting to know. we are going to have +- $2000 to live with . transport and flat paid for by company????? as we are wanting to send money home.
thanks again for everybodies help:P

Well I think +$2000 & with transport paid it should be ok,I think you can send money back  :)

The inflation rate is really high so the prices of the daily commodities regularly jump like a kangaroo but  unlike a kangaroo they never go down again :D

kez0711

it should be good. the $2200 is after we have sent money home. so it would be spending money

mhennes

well, livin in mohandessein, u'll have to get used to its traffic!

kez0711

thats for sure, at least drivers and taxis are around.
so far so good,

I advice for both of you to get a motorbike and if you are not bikers try to be as it is relay a jam unless you will move at midnight to 7:00 in the morning, it also depends on your work location where you can use the underground to go to work or not.

normal expenses household for a couple without kids is 1500 - 2000 EGP which is $300- $400 using the hyper markets and buying local stuff, hanging out and weekends' outings are excluded from the above budget and  they depend on the place you will head to.
