i think that if you are in a hotel or something internatinal you must use usd .
and if you are in a local area i think that you shlould use the l.e
and i advice you to use l.e when you have to pay by your hand and pay by usd when you use the credit card

I came back from a trip to Germany with Euros and ended up having to take them to a bank and exchange them.  Everyone takes dollars, even the police who will watch your car for you.  Using dollars will result in paying even more though and quite often some level of confusion.  I do everything except rent in LE since the landlord wants USD.

Tricky question!  If the answer was straightforward we could all be money brokers.  Foreign currency is a good idea but which one can change from day to day, week to week and so on.  Foreign currencies have all had their bad times over the last year or so.  Six years ago there were nearly 12 EGP to the British Pound.  Last year it went down to just under 8.  Swings and roundabouts as we say in the UK.  Good luck which ever you choose.

Dollars!
But my advice is to keep them in an account in a bank
If you have an account in LE and you put $ they automatically will be turn into LE, at the bank rate, and if you want to get back $ or other currency, just go to bank fill in an asking paper and you ll get back at the best rate ,the bank one!
Usually when you exchange money there are 3 levels: to sell/ to buy/ and the bank rate.

USD! Completely Agree.

A lot has to do with whether you have a US bank account, have to pay rent and utilities yourself (vs. having your company pay them for you) and so on.  My US bank only charges a small fee for using my Debit card, whether drawing cash at a machine or paying at places like Carrefour, so it doesn't make any sense for me to pay the fees and deal with the hassles and risks of using a local bank.  For someone who has to pay rent, utilities and so on (my company does those transactions for me with their local account) it's a different story so, as usual, what is best for one may not be for the other.
