Cost of living query

Saxy Lady

Please could we have some help re general cost of living?  We're thinking of renting a 2 bed house/apartment in Melbourne.  Is there anyone that would kindly supply an approximate list of their monthly ougoings : rent/insurances/utilities/car expenses/groceries and any other expenses.  If we rent a property, do we have to pay water rates/water usage/council rates, or is this usually included in the weekly rental?

Many thanks

Hi,
domain.com.au will help you with rent. Melbourne is a big place, so choose your suburb first.
insurance? - depends what do you want, I'd say contents ins ~AUD300 p.y.
utilities (electricity, phone, gas) app AUD100 p.m. and depending on usage
car rent - avis/hertz/... ~AUD100 p.d. (www.google.com.au)
groceries - depends - ~AUD200-300 p.w.
Council/water rates - landlord
Water usage - could be yours (~AUD15 p.m.) if a separate water meter installed for a unit/house.
