Vamos Rafa!

I am thinking about starting to apply for jobs in business, preferably in Muscat. Is it easy to get by without knowing Arabic in the workplace? Also, do the nationals speak a lot of English? Thanks!

Hasnaa

Hello Vamos Rafa!,

Welcome to Expat.com :)

Can you please tell us more about the business you want to do in Muscat?

Have you been there before?

Best of luck,

Hasnaa

Ye they do speak but you can not expect 100%... i would say 50% but still you can able to manage with English alone....that's how I have been surviving here :)

Vamos Rafa!

Thank you Kayarokanam!

Hasnaa, I am about to graduate with a Masters degree in Accounting and I have passed the CPA exam, so I am interested in working as an accountant. I am hoping to visit soon, but I am very interested because many of my friends speak so highly of Oman. Do you have any advice?

Priscilla

Hi Vamos Rafa!,

Thank you for all these details. :)

Please note that Hasnaa is a member of the Expat.com team. I think that in order to know about accounting jobs opportunities, you should have a look to some job sites. Some of them are listed below :

- http://www.learn4good.com/jobs/language … ntry/oman/
- http://om.indeed.com/jobs-in-Muscat

The Accounting job offers in Muscat section is also at your disposal, feel free to post your CV there as well.

Wish you all the best,

Priscilla

Better to check out the package prior to move here....

Vamos Rafa!

Priscilla, thank you so much for offering the links to job sites! I am working on the details to hopefully take a visit to Muscat this summer before I begin applying for jobs. Even if I can get by with speaking English, if my work wants me to learn Arabic while I am in Oman, would I be able to learn the language through conversations and study on my own time, or would it be necessary for me to take Arabic classes before coming to Oman?

Again, thank you for your help!

Priscilla

Hi Vamos Rafa!,

Unfortunately i'm afraid that i can't really help you concerning your question, i think that it depends on your ability of mastering the language. What i can advise you is to try to learn the language by yourself ( through books, language exchange) and if you need help, then you are free to look for a teacher. ;)

Thank you,

Priscilla

My dear friend, if you are planing to come to Muscat for a business or for a job, don't worry about language cause  in my knowledge 90% of Omani peoples can communicate in English as well 60% Omani speaks Hindi. Its a very good country for Business & every one is going to help you over here :idontagree::idontagree:

Good Luck, Cheers
