Cost of Living in Oslo

Hi All,

I have been offered with 30k NOK per month (after Tax deductions). Office location is Oslo. Is it good salary to stay there, Just for average expenditures ( prefer to cook at home, no more out side expenses)Then how much we need to spend per month?

Any kind of benefits we will get as we are paying more tax?
I gone through so many threads and I found benefits of Medical , free education....any thing else??

       Could you please suggest

Thanks

have you read through these other threads related to cost of living?

if you're coming on your own with no family to support, that should be a very liveable salary IMO.

as for the high taxes, that money also goes into infrastructure which is pretty good compared to some countries. My homeland (USA ) doesn't have as good trains, road surfaces, outdoor maintenance (love the lighted forest trails in winter), parental leave, retraining options when you're unemployed, sick leave etc.

I'm not sure how much of these are available if you're on a limited work visa though- might want to look into that.

Hi,

Really Thanks for your response.
We are two members coming( me & my husband) to Norway.
I got offer, we are coming for Long term only.
My spouse, is from SAP back ground, after coming there
he need to search, till he gets job he is like un-employe.
Shall we get any benefit during that period?

Could you please clear "retraining options when you're unemployed",

Thanks

Hello,

You can read about the various benefits available at https://www.nav.no/English

Hello,

Thanks for info.
How much we need to spend MINIMUM per month.
I know its vary from person to person, that's I am asking just *pprox figure.

Thanks

based on dmcart's link, your husband will not be eligible for unemployment benefits since he hasn't paid anything into the system. The eligibility information says one requirement is that "you were paid wages of at least 1,5 times the National Insurance Scheme basic amount in the last calendar year (last year), or at least 3 times the National Insurance Scheme basic amount over the past three full calendar years."

here's a popular website for apartment hunting to see what that will cost:

food.. I spent 100-300 per shop and I go a few times a week. That includes some "immigrant" stores with cheaper prices and some ingredients from ICA which is more expensive. You can probably manage cheaper.

I would say a minimum spend might be around 20,000 NOK per month, including everything. As you say, it will vary from person to person, but I can't imagine being able to live in Oslo without spending that every month.

O.K
Thank you.
