Hello,

I am American, have been living in Brazil full time 1998-2001, 2005-present and visiting since 1992.
Considering getting out.
Looking for a new home.
I think I want to live on a boat with a small inexpensive land base. The boat will be a 32-34'ft motor cruiser but I will not be cruising much. I simply want to live on the water, normally anchored within kayak range of shore with www access at nearly all times. Possible?
Other islands better choice for an American?
I do not speak Spanish, I speak Portuguese poorly and I would only learn Spanish well enough to get by.

Taxes and costs in Brazil are crazy.

Regards, Mark

Marcos, welcome to the forum.  Have you ever been to the DR before?
There are numerous marinas around the country that may fit your needs.  However it is a large country and there are many different areas and communities that all differ in some way. A trip here for a month or so should give you the information you are looking for.

No never been to DR, Trindad only island in the Carib.
Yes, I realize a exploratory trip would be in order if I get to that point. Just gathering info first.
Hoping some boaters reply.

Welcome to the forum!  I am sure CaptSam will reply with good info for you regarding the east end of the island.

On the north coast Luperon is  a great place to live on your boat. It is considered a safe harbor in a storm, lots of service and Luperon is a small quaint community. You may love it.

Bob is right,  a good long month of exploring this island is needed to see if this will work for you!  You can get by here with little Spanish but only in certain areas.
