I am debating about bringing my dog to Cairo.  I know my dog will keep me from being lonely, but I like to travel.  Are there any pet sitting services in Cairo?  Are pet friendly apartments available?

About pet sitting services, yes it's available..depends on where are you living tho.

My neighbor in Maadi had a dog and didn't have any trouble finding dog sitters.  He posted a note on the bulletin board at the CSA in Maadi (Community Services Organization -  http://www.livinginegypt.org/) and it turned out that they had a list of pet sitters, vets, etc.  I'd recommend making the CSA your first stop no matter what!  Their newcomers orientation is fantastic and well worth the price (it's inexpensive).

I was told it's not a good idea to bring a big dog because most of the houses are flats and there's no yards...can anyone please chime in on this? I have a black lab and I'm concerned about having to break up my family....it's more than likely not going to happen if that's the case...any feedback would be appreciated.

thank you

There are plenty of houses on the market for rent with gardens, depending on how much you are prepared to pay. In areas where expats live landlords seem to take it for granted that their tenants will have pets.Cairo, however, is not the best place for walking dogs, but not far away there is Wadi Degla, which is perfect for letting dogs off the leash to have a good run about.

what is wadi degla? Is that a dog park or some desert?

denisaki

Wadi Degla is a desert area,an open area, where many people go hiking. It's the perfect place for letting a dog have a good run and only 10 mins from Maadi.
