Since I'm heading to Belize in the near future for a visit and to look around , my daughter who's 15 wantsa to know about bugs , how big are they , She doesnt like them.. She thinks she can handle snakes as I assured her they wont be in the house , but she has a fear of big bugs.
Any help will be appreciated , thanks

I don't know what areas in Belize you will be visiting....  But, just this past week a woman was visiting Corozal.  She's lived overseas and in Mexico in particular for ten years. She said that Corozal is the most bug-free place she has ever been in in this part of the world.  It may be the breezes off the bay.  It may be the geckos that eat those bugs...  But I agree.  Compared with places like Florida, this is,bug-free heaven.

However, in the bush and jungle, it's a different story and there are some nasty critters there....  Like Doctor flies.   Google 'em.     But in Corozal Town, we are lucky!

Seriously, this is the tropics. Most of the flora is larger than life, but the bugs are normal size for the tropics. If you have teeny tiny little cockroaches in Canada, the ones in Belize are going to look large.  But in reality, we did not have them in our house. (We lived near Placencia for two years).  Most homes are either on stilts or concrete block and pretty tight.  Don't leave food out at night and clean up what drops on the floor and you won't have a problem.

I was there in January. We spent 3 days in the jungle in the Cayo mountains (near the Guatemalan border) and several days by the beach in Placencia. We each got some some ticks hiking in the jungle but easily picked them off. Lyme disease is not a risk in Belize so this was just a matter of looking for the ticks and removing them. Otherwise, I couldn't believe how few bugs there were, even in the jungle.

The only scare (startled more than scared) was due to the scorpion that woke me up by crawling up my belly in the middle of the night. If it had stung me it would have been no worse than a bee sting. As it was I just flicked it off and squashed it with a flip flop.

No worries!
