Hello all...

Living in Riyadh for around 4 yrs now is somewhat bittersweet...

I have this haunting problem and I would like to ask everyone here on what to do.

Here is my story...

July 23, I bought something on Al-Sadhan which cost SR404. Then my mobile sent me an SMS that SR4,040 was taken from my credit card. I confronted the Saudi teller and told me that the SMS was wrong, along with him crumbling some paper from the machine. Then another SMS was received that SR404 was again taken from my card.

I immediately talked to the supervisor and he told me that everything will be ok after 24hrs because the bank will return my SR4,040.

3 months passed and now I am paying for the SR4,040 that I did not purchase. I have talked to the bank but the told me that Al-sadhan took the money but Al -sadhan told me that there was no SR4,040 in their income that day.

I am now confused and depressed. I am paying for the SR4,040 with interest monthly.

Is there any agency or lawfirm I should consult with?

Please help.

You should instruct your credit card provider that this is an unknown transaction and that you did not authorise that amount to be deducted from your balance. Essentially, you are disputing that specific transaction. The credit card company should thus stop the interest payments on the amount while the dispute process takes place. If the credit card company agree the transaction is incorrect, then they ought to refund your money to you. There should be no need to involve a lawyer or other third party.

Hope you can get some good news from all this. I'd be extremely pi**ed off, but then I'd be the kinda guy to wait outside in my car for the other guy to finish work... catch my drift? :P

did u get the receipt for the SR4k? it happened to me before, in hyper Panda, but they returned to me the money after presenting the reciept.

RehabDoctor

It seems in KSA cash is better option then cards.

what you should do is to send a fax to the banks complaint department which deals with credit card.

@tonguetwister: told them to hold my card until this dispute is finished...
And after a month I received a statement of account... I called a bank and they told me that they did not receive any hold order. So I told them to hold my card, and after a month another statement... Really frustrating. I even wonder if they do/did understand a word I say...

@beetleguese: I have the receipt/s and sent them to all those concerned in this transaction but still nothing...
Good for you that you got you money back asap...

@RehabDoctor: seems the only choice to avoid trouble...

@adsl.jalawiah: faxed everything. First they told me it will take 30days, then the reply should be in after 60 days. Then 90 days should be enough they say... But still nothing...

Went to the bank (again) today. Made me wait for 2hrs and the reply... "We will look further into it..."

You can send a letter to SAMA (Saudi Arabian Monetory Agency) with all the history. They are very strict about it and will investigate your issue immediately.

SAMA directly doesn't record or investigate any conflicts. However, they have a subsidiary called SIMAH (http://www.simah.com/en/Default.aspx). It's the Saudi Credit Bureau owned by 10 saudi banks. On their website they have a form to report conflicts.

You'd need to register with them first that will need a visit to your bank/their head office in Olaya.

It's a good idea to use ATMs only. At least you'll have the option to review the transaction amount before you punch in your PIN. That's beside the point though :(

You have to keep on insisting, if your complaint doesn't get resolved then simply just try again. It's sad how many people taking these requests respond in a unprofessional manner or may not help you at all. My suggestion is for you to call the banks hotline instead of wasting your time in the branches.

@shrink: bank al jazira and visa is the provider.

@TLL: too late for me hehehe but will register as soon as I get home. The mobile website is not register-friendly. Thanks for the tip.

@bigK: been calling the banks call center but as soon as they hear me speaking in english, either they hung up or make me wait for 30 min then I hung up... works same way. Went ti the bank and the photocopied all the receipt and voila!

Still nothing....

If you can send me some details about your transactions, I can try to connect you with someone in Bank Al Jazirah to help you out. I work in banking automation industry and have contacts with all the banks. I also know that SAMA takes these complaints seriously and investigate them. If they find bank was at fault, they apply hefty penalties...send me your information in a private message.
