Hello everyone,

I'm senior student in the department of computer science and my cgpa is 2.55. Do I have any chance to be accepted by public universities in Norway? Do you know any examples from your friends? What is the minimum cgpa requirement for master degree mostly?

Thank you very much,

Hi Dabb,

I recommend you apply to some Norwegian universities, and the names of them are:

University of Oslo
University of Bergen
University of Stavanger
University of Agder
University of Bodø

The last one is quite high up in Norway in comparison with the others, and I havent mentioned Tromsø as it's too high up - these are the 6 universities in Norway.

In addition there are what is called "Høgskoler" , ie university colleges, e.g Høgskolen i Oslo, Høgskolen i Bergen etc.

The University of Oslo and University of Bergen will be most difficult to get into due to many applications - however the standard of education in the public universities will be the same.

You can apply through Samordna Opptak, I will give you a link:
http://www.samordnaopptak.no/info/

On that site you need to click at "English at the top" and go to "StudyinNorway" for all relevant information.

Thank you very much for reply..

Well, what do you think about Norwegian University of Science and Technology? the university has really good master degree programs. alsı i deduced what you say that I have a chance to be accepted by a university in Norway except for Oslo and Bergen.. am i right?

dabb

alsı is also sorry for wrong typing.

additionally, I couldn't find any cgpa requirement for admission. How can I predict my chance?

Which university do you have your degree from? Some Norwegian universities don't recognise foreign qualifications. If I were you, I would find a degree programme you are interested in, and email the contact person to ask about admission requirements. International programmes which are taught in English should give some indication of the entry requirements for foreign applicants. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has a very good reputation in Norway and internationally. Of course, the University of Oslo is also well respected. It could be worth looking at the University Colleges though. Some of them are very good in the areas they specialise in.

Good luck,

David

I'm studying at Bilkent University in Turkey. My university meets requirements of European universities. I have started to contact with international offices of Norwegian universities. I just want to learn opinions about my situation.

By the way, thanks for suggestions :)

Oh yes I think you talk of the NTNU or something, that is located in Trondheim...

Then there are 7 universities in Norway

Trondheim is a town which is neither south nor north, but in between Oslo and Northern Norway

No, you misunderstood me when I said you dont have a chance of being accepted by the University of Oslo and the University of Bergen - I just meant those rank 1st, so you can put Oslo and Bergen as your first two choices along with some other "secure choices" including "Høgskoler" as long as they are public.

As a place I think you would like Oslo and Bergen the most - Oslo is semi-multicultural so you will have Pakistani, Arabic and Turkish shops there, and the cheapest flights will also be out of Oslo.

Bergen is a scenic place in western Norway close to the fjords and mountains

I see there is a talk of admission and acceptance into Norwegian universities and I would like to comment on that.

Norwegian universities and university colleges are of a high standard and accepted worldwide - but that said then it is a fact that Asian students are extremely bright - be it in Istanbul, Mumbai or Tokyo and most Asian students will in fact find that they are use to read/study maybe twice as much, but it is their universities/institutions that might not be as widely accepted as Norwegian and Swedish ones.
