I've been in Durban just a month now. I love it here. But I have encountered a few challenges. I had issues getting a bank account. The only way I got a bank account was because I knew someone. I also had a problem with letting. The lady was ready to rent and all of a sudden she wanted double deposit and first months rent. My banker told me that this may happen. That once a lot of landlords find out you are a foreigner they are going to want to charge you another deposit. Because the feel you may walk out on the lease. But any hoo to make a long story short we didn't get charge the double deposit.But all in all Im happy here.

Yes I agree it is a rip off! If you want to call USA buy your self a world call card this helps as its cost approx. 39cents a minute! We in South Africa are ripped off in more ways than one!

Luckily I have an ooma phone from the US. I use this to call home to the US. It uses the internet to make calls. I only cost me $13 a month for 2 lines.
