Busking in Europe

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here has tried busking for a living while abroad.
(wiki definition of busking: Street performance or busking is the practice of performing in public places, for gratuities, which are generally in the form of money and edibles. People engaging in this practice are called street performers, buskers, street musicians, minstrels, or troubadours.)

For those who have done this, can you share some good busking spots and experiences?  I am particularily curious about experiences in France and Italy.

I've never done it for a living, but I was part of a dance troupe in high school that used to put on impromptu shows in public.

I just got back from Rome and saw quite a few people performing, especially near the Colosseum and Spanish Steps.

My elderly step-father who only had a eigth grade education but died very wealthy had a les politically-correct name, Educated Bums!
