Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in Addis Ababa ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed?
What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in Addis Ababa?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Sousoudodi

We use taxis as we didn't get our car yet, in general, rates get extremely high when it is observed that you are a foreigner.

I have no clue about general public transportation.

Thanks.

The major means of transportation used by the working class is the Blue and White Minibus taxis. Networks are available for major parts of the City. The Government is trying to regulate it by introducing zoning system recently. However, there are still problems especially at rush hours. Safety is generally not a major concern, but convenience may be as they tend to have passengers exceeding their capacities.
Price renges from 2 Birr to 5 Birr depending on distance. One may expect Birr 20 to 25 as cost of using these taxis as daily cost.
The small "contract" taxis are way too expensive. A 5 Birr travel by minibuses may cost you 50 to 100 birr for "contract" taxis.
