Wise, Social Security and investments

There are a  bunch of companies out there that claim International Financial Advisors of some sort. Most of them catering to the uber wealthy. 

I actually registered with one, a legit one, to see if I could get referrals as a Real Estate Broker.   No one trickle down to my doorstep. i am still waiting for that big money launderer. It will probably never materialize.. Oh well....

Social Security Benefits recipient do not put you under that category ( to be blunt ). Unless I am off, that's eggs nest type of saved money, or hard earned money ( which deserves all due respect ).

My family roots are of Azorean Portuguese, some made out to America, some to Brazil, some Canada, some stayed behind.   

I had a grand uncle ( deceased ), who left Portugal's mainland, migrated to America, married an Portuguese-American women ( my grand aunt , also deceased ). His first job was as a scab, factory work.  in New England.

He saved enough to propose my Grand Aunt, and eventually to open his Grocery Store by the River. The mob used to bootleg cigarettes, and he bought them plenty.   

Under the wrong impression the IRS would be after him, he migrated to Sao Paulo in the mid 50's.  And the IRS never cared for him, in fact, he was able to buy a Kentucky's colonel title. 

Well, every deal he had with his own people in Brazil, and Brazilians, he left money on the table. It so happens that Brazilians LOOOOVE OPMs ( Other People's Money ).  His saving grace was the couple was thrifty ( he retired doing small loans, as a Shilock  ( he was a Porugee New Christian, meaning Inquisition Jew, there were plenty in Portugal that made to America ).

So, my long narrative is....

1.Plead poverty at all times.

2.Learn the ways of the Country. That will take some time.

3.Walk amongst the wolves

4.Be a frugal Joe.

5.Brazilian Attorneys, you can find registered under Martindale.com directory. Same used for US Attorneys.

6.Watch out for Brazilian Women.They might not look the part, but they are as good as Gold Diggery as American ones.

7.Bring your wife if you may.

8.Get a mentor.

Asking for a Financial Advisor or Attorney when you hardly made into this country, as a Green Horn, you are a sitting duck.

Learn to walk before you leap. 

And I would love to have some of your money.

05/21/23 Wanted to get a few comments on an updated subject. Seems Wise is a good way to go on transferring money to Brazil. Secondly, when the time comes we plan on depositing our SS checks directly to our account in the US and then transfer to Brazil. Third and most important will be the access of funds from our investments from the US to Brazil.

@56tbourne FYI. Money Transfer companies are not a sure thing. These companies can have a change of mind just when you least can afford them, so be careful thinking you will always be able to transfer with them.

Wire Transfer Companies are often used to launder money. Not that it might affect your wire transfers, but as an investment instruments, otherwise it  exposes you to places like FBI, Policia Federal. 

In the US, if you are to run the banking side/wire of the Transfer Company, you are required to own a Banking License for each State you do business. That excludes agents ( your garden variety travel agency ). That mean putting up the cash for the licenses. The amount varies from State to State. It can start about USD 500,000 up to millions for such a fee. 

In Brazil, unless you used Bank to Bank transfers, the inbound transferred amount ended up with Doleiros or Black Market Currency Traders.     That's the kind of people who get rounded up on occasion by the Policia Federal.
