Hi everyone,

I've been living in northern Peru for 21 years. I came here with my Peruvian husband and settled in his home town. My husband, who took care of so much, has become ill and I am facing all his tasks plus my own. So I have lots of questions. My Spanish is very, very limited.

We are both retirees. I am a former sociology professor and still interested in learning and writing. My dissertation area was in the sociology of politics and economics. My focus right now is on a question I asked myself about Genesis 1. It relates to the lack of a mother in the creation story. Other than that, I have 2 sons,  5 cats, and live in a house I designed with inspiration from a Roman house.

Hello, I was a member through Facebook, but I gave up on FB. Anyway, I have been living in northern Peru now for twenty-one years. I came here as a retiree with my Peruvian husband. Since my husband speaks English well and learning Spanish at an advanced age is difficult, I am now stuck with not being able to communicate with others who do not speak English.

My husband is now very ill and I am almost completely on my own. So expat.com is a place I go to for getting a variety of answers to questions.

Welcome Grasshopper.  Your question about Genesis 1, has 2 main possible answers.  1.  Its the truth, and there is no mother until eve becomes one, or 2, Its a myth, in which case does it matter?  :-) I assume you are treating it like #2 and speculating on why.   Thanks for sharing!
