Yes. I opened accounts with Banco del Austro with a passport. I know other expats who have done this at Banco de Guayaquil

I needed a letter of reference from someone who had an account at my Banco de Pichincha. I also had cédula.

Hi

That is why we opened acct at Banco de Loja. No Cedula required and no reference letters. Just passport. They also pay 7% on CDs. Many people like Jep Credit Union but they have a bit more risk.

Just out of curiosity, what are some of your opinions on Mutualista Pichincha? My wife has an account there, & I was thinking simply of adding me in for a joint account. I usually defer to her judgement on all things Ecuadorian, but I would love to hear the opinons of expats actually living down there...
