Hello Bhavna, the link just went to the government site that shows the requirements - but anyhow, I did finally purchase a flight ticket that can be moved down the line, should I not require it.

You want to go into " Tramites" and follow intstructions for item 4

4.Permiso Temporal de Permanencia (PTP) o Prórroga de permanencia

When it comes to.pay, they may not let you pay by credit card , but they will give you  the option to pay at a bank ( Migraciones Bank that they use) with a QR code.

You should  then be ready to go.

If any issues, make an appointment at local Migraciones  office...which is another procedure, requiring a document  called a FUT and an approved cita ( apointment).time and date.You wont find a FUT category for PTP, so you can use a salvaconducto as your FUT category, which is a similar trámite, but for expiring vuss.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS UNDERTAKE PROCESS 2 TO 3 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR PASSPORT STAMP EXPIRES

As far as buses, it depends where you live, but you wont be.taking a bus to Panamá, unless you wanna cross the Darien Gap (LOL), and not to Venezuela, unless you wanna be a political.prisoner, so the only option is to go to Pasto/ Ipiales and Tulcán area of Ecuador. Dont know if you have to be out for 24 hours.

Depending on where you are in Colombia, this vould be a very long trip...several days

I highly recommend  you fly to Quito or Panamá if you are forcesd to leave..both similar costs..but best optionby far  is to get your extensiion REMEMBER START AT LEAST 2 WEEKS BEFORE PASSPORT STAMP EXPIRY DATE.

Hi Nico, true, I forgot to put where I am based, Its Medellin. I finally bought a flight ticket - flex - so if needed I can go and if not, I can postpone it... somehow my mind got clugged I guess, I have had a lot of things going on!! But thanks for your reply!
