Provider of Smart Home / Security Equipment in Brazil?

Here in Tinytown (aka Pancas ES) it seems the local electronics stores seem to carry cameras and some smart devices. I’ve also seen some motion sensors and lights at my favorite (materials de construção) store. Of course Mercado Libre carries a bunch of stuff. Just search for “zigbee” and or “wifi camera”. As with all electronics in Brazil, be prepared for some sticker shock with the prices.

@Pablo888 Security hardware? I don’t know. I always have a couple of windows open and I’ve never locked the sliding glass door. Like Roddie, but I don’t have a dog.

Personally I don't have much idea about where to buy them locally to be honest. I purchased some appliances, such as security cameras and automation devices from Amazon, during US visits. It’s definitely worth waiting for a trip to the US to buy HomeKit products, for example. So expensive here.

Additionally, I remember seeing products on Amazon that are delivered to Brazil if you pay the taxes, so it could still be an alternative considering the prices here, but never tried.

And for those nearby or planning trips to Foz, Ciudad del Este for electronics is always a good option

@rocade, thank you for the feedback.  I am wondering if smart homes is catching on in Brazil.  I suspect that the usual Alexa or Google pod are available - but am wondering if there are smart homes that are being built and sold in Brazil.

I suspect that security is not an issue in some part of the country - but with people owning so many second homes, I would think that having a remote camera or a security system or a way to check on what is happening when they are not home would have a growing demand...

But I agree that bringing from the US and adapting to the power needs is definitely an option.  Would prefer to have a local supplier or develop that market....

There probably will be a market eventually; when it finally takes off may well depend on how expensive labor becomes, and how quickly.  The Brazilians most likely to want security measures and be able to pay for them  -- Class A, and the wealthier segment of Class B -- mostly have them provided by people, whether concierges in urban settings or gated communities with guards for suburban or second homes.  As employing people becomes less advantageous, more openings for automation will develop, not unlike the way that the market for laborsaving devices in the home has grown as the cost and paperwork surrounding fulltime in-house help is making that less common.

Private security services offer armed response, according to their advertisements. I'm guessing that you may have to buy a complete service package from them, installation of home security systems, monitoring and response. Maybe coordinate with your insurance?

Good question.  ADT here in the US has patrol response (not exactly armed response) - mainly as a deterrence - as part of a monitoring service.  I think that this is part of a coordinated burglary, fire, emergency response....  That is a new branch of service industry that can effectively be deployed for businesses.

There are also different business models that can be deployed for cameras / smart homes that are more community based.  For example, if you trust your neighbor and you notice that your fridge is broken or there is a water leak, you can let your neighbor enter your house and shut down the water supply....

In the very minimum, the smart home interfaces will allow the property manager or owners to manage multiple properties more efficiently...

@mike flanagan - I hope this helps because it took a lot of research to find this thread. Mike Flanagan helped our family get our outdoor video cameras which we use primarily to keep an eye on my 97-year-old mother as well as the front gate and back gate.......

For outside, look up Câmera Externa Inteligente iM7 Full Color Branco Intelbras , I have closed circut version of these, however if she faces internet outages in her area, you can always get microSD cards to toss in so it continues to record without internet. you can install an app for android / apple phones that allows you to view remotely. why you can use these versus the ring camera. these have two-way mics, and you can set your phone to notify when someone's at the door etc, or if she's in distress and you can see you can communicate with her outside or inside or wherever you mount these cameras - the quality has been excellent in terms of audio both ways.

The security cameras are hooked up to my wife's I Phone, so even when she is at the grocery store she can watch my mother. (MY brother actually contracted her and pays her to be Caretaker in Chief.)...In terms of what we would do if there was a break-in at home. I am not sure, but SIMBA and PANDORA are ALWAYS there, and we have at least a half-dozen Bulls that live next door that our dogs heard every day.

@Pablo888 If your property is on the beach, you will frequently be replacing electronic devices due to corrosion. A smart home could be difficult to maintain. Just a thought.

I use intelbras. 100% their outdoor cameras have survived the harshest rain sun etc and still operate with no issues 4 + years later.

Little expensive for their product. however long term 0 issues. I have used both hardwired and wireless equipment

@Mikeflanagan Thanx Mike. It took me awhile to find your original recommendation. Ours are working great. Now they share the roof with our Solar Panels.

Recife doesn't hold any restrictions on where you are in the city. Lord it's just humid or roasting lol.

@Mikeflanagan, I will be in Recife in December before heading to Rio.  Where can I get those intelbras?  I would be very interested in anything that can withstand the sea.  Not many things survive long close to sandy beaches.

Ya even writing this I ran across 5 - 6 kiosks for intelbras at various locations in recife and olinda .   Wish we could just upload photos here some days lol

I think you can find kiosks at mix mateus, but checking on their website as well is a good place to look for needs. Overall been super happy with the product.
