Is it worth getting a CPF?

easygoer1050

Good Morning all this site has been very informative.

I am married to a Brazilian (we are married for 6 years and currently live in Florida) My wife became a US Citizen a few years ago)  I am in the process of registering our marriage in Brazil and looking to get a CPF  (scheduled for 2/20)   I was originally thinking this in order to get a bank account in Brazil if we ever wanted to buy a small apartment in Brazil (also to take advantage of the 5-1 ratio of US dollar to REIS---   I am 57  wife is 51 and I am retired (injured)--  We might try to go back and forth to Brazil   but still looking at options for the future......thoughts?  thanks

02/01/24 @easygoer1050.  Good morning!  There's no downside to getting a CPF for anyone who plans on spending time in Brazil,  and not much you can do here without one, so go for it.

If your marriage was performed in the United States, your wife should be sure to register it at the Brazilian Consulate nearest to your home first; if that's done, registering the marriage in Brazil is a snap.

Yes, I think that is a very good idea. You only get one CPF number, and it is very easy to obtain. Then you could apply for a family reunion visa, and you both would have the right to live in the US or Brazil...

You can't do diddly squat without one here.   Get it.  It is not that hard.
