Getting a CPF TAX ID Number, Brazil in Britain

Just wanted to say, I saw a youtube video where getting a CPF number, in the USA took 90 days, but here in Britain, I just called the consulate, and they said it would not take that long, my lawyer also said so. I just went on the Consulate link on their website and went through the forms, uploaded pictures arranged a appointment and had it all done when I arrived with the needed documents, so they had my number on the day (Less than 20 minutes) . It could theoretically have all occurred in 2-3 days, but this depends on how quickly they are able to get everything processed, and how you can get it arranged when you can get to the consulate, but once you are at the consulate it can be sorted that you get a CPF number on the day. Felt I needed to say that, as I was fearing it could take much longer after seeing what was on Youtube. Though there is some good stuff on youtube, it is not always as accurate as lawyers and consulate services of course, though on some things can be a good guide. This was what it was like in late 2024, maybe things will change, but that was great.

Agree that the information on youtube may not be accurate.

There are many reasons for having delays in processing - like work slowdown or strikes in certain parts of the federal government.

I did my CPF application earlier during the year and the issue was not the application itself but rather getting the appointment. Everything was done within a month.

It is highly recommended to follow the latest instructions on the official website. If in doubt, call the consulate.

If you are in a hurry i.e. have less than 2 weeks before flying, there may be a way to do drop in's but you will need to contact the consulate. No guarantees here but if you are in a tight spot time-wise, it does not hurt to call and ask.... If you speak Portuguese fluently, you should definitely try.

Brazilians are really friendly and accommodating - but we must always treat them with respect and be friendly back.
