First Hand Experience with Student Visa

asalem44

Hi All

I am a 40 years IT Project Manager planning to apply for masters in NZ and eventually move there.

I have shortlisted few universities and institutes to apply for masters there, all seems fine and I can financially support myself and family during my study period. Yet I have a few questions and I would appreciate if anyone has passed through the same earlier to share his experience.

1. Will my age by an issue in getting the student visa approved by the NZ immigration authorities ?
2. Will it make a difference if I apply for Masters in a technical institute rather than a university ? Obviously they are less expensive, eligibility criteria is more flexible and the study duration is shorter than universities. Will this affect the decision of the migration counselor ?
3. Having my family accompanying me, will this as well decrease my chances of getting the visa ? Any suggestions ?

I want to move to NZ but just want to make sure I am doing whatever it takes to get the student visa approved, skilled migration won't work for me because of my age.

Appreciate hearing your thoughts and experiences.

Welcome to the forum asalem44

Just be aware that the NZ Govt will not be issuing student visas because of Covid-19.

1. Your age will be against you.
2. This will affect the decision.
3. Having family with you will affect the decision.

Sorry to sound negative but this is the reality.

Thanks Stumpy.

I understand because of COVID all the visas are on hold now.

So do you think if I go for a university rather than a polytechnic and travel alone without my family, will this give me better chances of getting the student visa ?

I am not saying it definitely will but it may enhance your chances.

Thanks again.

No shame in trying anyways, wish me luck.
