Electronic communication in Mexico

Clay Daniel

I just moved from the US to Puerto Escondido. I have already learned that people here don't use email much. Nearly everyone uses whatsapp. I've had it for several days now, and it is better than email, and you can make calls. And its free. Not sure how that is possible, and it works great.

That's been my experience too. Whatsapp took a little bit to figure out, but it's used almost exclusively in Mexico. It's worth it to become involved.

I've only been in Mexico 7 days. Everyone uses WhatsApp. I got it the day after I got here. I'm on a learning curve too, but it is the best way to communicate here.

WhatsApp all the way, Mexico runs on WhatsApp and it is so convenient, efficient and easy .. I would be absolutely lost without it and use it to make appointments etc. as well as for general communications

WhatsApp isn't just a MXN thing.  I first encountered in Spain and Portugal about 15 years ago.  WhatsApp is popular in many countries where the local telecom providers do not give unlimited texts and data.  To use WhatsApp you have to be on the internet and the calls do not go thru TelCel, etc.

WhatsApp allows free worldwide calls, texts, and file sending to any country as long as your interlocutor has the app.
