Visa based on family unity

I am trying to get a resident visa based on family unity. My husband has a Residente Temporal. We are both Brits. I was refused because I need a letter from British Embassy, signed and stamped, to explain why the surname on the marriage certificate is different from the one on my passport. The Embassy say the do not do this and will not budge.

I have apostilled birth certificate and marriage license. We live in Playa del Carmen.

HELP!

do you guys have a consulate here? Try the consulate rather than the embassy. Unfortunately there’s no way around this without an affidavit stating you’re the same person even though you have different surnames. Reach out to Legally in Mexico on Facebook and they can likely guide you on what options you have.

Thanks for that. We are with Legally in Mexico trying to get this done. Tried the consulate in Cancun - same answer, try Cancun immigration. Did that, no answer. Even spoke to Jon Benjamin UK Ambassador in Mexico.

Replies:

No, we don’t sign letters/forms proving someone’s identity to authorities here or in other countries. That is what passports are for. Sorry.

Proof of who you are is a birth certificate and current passport not a letter from an Embassy.

ah bummer!!! Yes the US stopped doing it as well. My clients use Apostille.net but I don’t think that would work for a British citizen. Also what a nasty response! Glad you’re working with Milly, she’s fantastic!
