Now, now Shahab, no lies allowed on this forum
shahab you think you might hate girls but you love women - big difference
shahab - did u ever find out which side of the financial district your company is moving into?

there were others as well who were trying to hit on me ...lol...(cutie thing)
Sorry to disappoint but the only one hitting on you was the MAN who called you 'cutie' lol
oh well, you gotta take admirer's wherever you can find 'em. I know that (you'd die laughing if you ever met the range of my real life admirers here in Saudia lol).
y? are they all women?
No, just a really strange mix of men, differing nationalities and ages. I'm not sure if they want a green card or just want to get laid LOL
I really don't know... it's a toss-up!!
Wow, I totally hijacked the thread....and it was about GOOD THINGS IN RIYADH right? SORRY...
Where'd that go? Oh - and sounds like it's a whole lot easier for a man to say "plenty to do here' and how entertainment is over rated when you don't have to worry about meeting your girlfriends if one of them has a boyfriend or being seen in public alone, or not being able to drive which is honestly, the oddest thing about the country that I know of, so far. If separating the sexes is the goal, why force us to have a strange man IN the car with us? Also can we ride up front if there are 3-4 of us females?
Okay a glass of wine WILL be missed, or a cold beer in the summer with a grilled steak would be nice too. But it's not a biggie. I think for young singles it must be a killer to not be able to meet each other. Do young people date or is it all arranged? WAIT---back to the topic...
Plays have been around thousands of years. They're not "new fangled" things. I'm learning that there ARE forms of entertainment if you know where to look. But yes, it's different and there's no way to sugar coat that. Back to the GOOD THINGS....it doesn't rain much...and you know, that IS something. I like the sun.
Musicman - Welcome back, We missed you!

Gotta read all the posts to follow what's going on!
spitfire just join in the subject or create any subject you like and catch these guys off guard - he he he
shahab - what happened to your admirer???? hello dreamer - where are you at????
Allie,
I read the other post you sent (helpful but wacky) but it's hard for me to see an overview of each thread and to know where my words went or where I can find who wrote what to me. I will figure this out...I know I will.....someday...
Here are a few questions. First, when my daughter and I arrive (she'll be 13 but looks even younger) do we both buy & wear abayas from the airport on, and if so, where do we get them? Is it like a poncho with a place for the head to pop thru and that's it? Do they sell them in the airport? Are there versions of them that look better than others? IS that okay with the religious guys? Does it matter what you wear underneath? (I imagine on windy days it does matter).
Does anyone know if it's alright to discuss (on here) the political ramifications of who succeeds the King? I just read an article about some power struggle expected when he passes on, although he's in good health for now. Just that he's 85, but is commenting on it publicly even alright?
Thanks. Hope you folks find a way to get together soon, or I will have to move there just to host a party & invite everyone, ON A COMPOUND of course...& I'll list that as a "thing I like about Riyadh"
You're excused from having one at the airport but wear baggy clothing.. preferably something long that covers your 'bum'.. and be prepared for a few stares.
But after that, you and your daughter will need to get one ASAP. You can buy them in many places--I got my first one in Euromarche! lol (a food store)
Lots of good abaya shops in Dira. And actually, an abaya is like a long, black graduation gown.
Spitfire,Yeah Allie is right,u r excused to wear it at your first time but believe me u r going to be so uncomfortable when u will go out or when u will be browsing confusingly to buy one since u wont be wearing one but its ok for your daughter initially, i would suggest u to get one and when u go for your first shopping in Riyadh, let her choose what she wants.
Here r few links for your help.
You can buy abaya from Thousand Oaks too.

and u can even buy online

i promise u would love the designs, these r quite stylish.
Spitfire
Dont hesitate to look online where you live to purchase one in advance. There are prob a few shops in your area that sell them! I was surprised to find one in my home town and I live in a very small, country-like community in So MD! So I didn't have the hassle of coming into the airport without one. And you can put it on just before you land in country. If you would like I can send you the link to the shop I used. Im sure the owner would be happy to send one out to you if you are unable to locate something close to where you live. I believe the cost was $45.
