Hi almaflores1920,

This is a rather common problem between the employee and the employer.

By law, the employee is not supposed or expected to pay for their visa renewals. It is an entirely sponsor's / employer's cost.

But since the sponsor / employer has the upper hand in the employer-employee equation, they demand that their investments be refunded. Some greedy sponsor / employer might even demand a higher amount to be returned.

Speak to your employer again about your decision to quit and leave as the promised commitments have not been met. If your employer is still adamant, seek the help and assistance of your embassy staff. They will meditate on your behalf and will help you exit without much damage. Also, if you involve the embassy, your employer would view your case in an entirely different light, as opposed to you fighting your own battles directly.

While talking to your employer subtly drop the Ministry of Manpower name so that your employer is made aware that you cannot be taken for a ride.

Hi almaflores1920,

One of the main jobs of an embassy is to protect and safeguard its citizens, who are on foreign soil.

So as a citizen of your country, you have every right to walk into your country's embassy and seek assistance. And it will never be refused.
