Getting around with your pet in Oman

Cheryl
#1
Hello everyone,

Living in Oman with a pet also means learning how to navigate local transport systems together. From daily commutes to occasional trips, you have to navigate betwwen local rules and real-life experiences. Whether you’re a long-term expat or still adjusting, we would love to hear your insights.

How do you usually travel with your pet in Oman?

How pet-friendly do you find local transportation means in practice?

What challenges do you face?

How does your pet handle transportation in Oman in general?

What about costs when traveling with public transportation (either bus, train, taxi, plane…)? Are there special or additional rates for pets?

Have you ever encountered unexpected situations or surprises related to pet transport rules?

Share your experience to help fellow expats and soon-to-be expats.

Thanks,

Cheryl

Hello Cheryl,

Thank you for your message.

As I have my own car, I usually travel with my pet in my personal vehicle. This makes transportation much easier and more comfortable for both of us, as I can travel according to my pet's needs without depending on public transport.

In my experience, using a private car is the most convenient option for pet owners in Oman. I have not faced many challenges, apart from ensuring that my pet is comfortable and safe during longer journeys. Fortunately, I have not encountered any unexpected issues regarding pet transport rules so far.

My advice to other expats with pets would be to keep their pet secured during travel, carry water for longer trips, and check any specific requirements if visiting veterinary clinics, hotels, or other facilities with pets.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my experience.

Best regards,
